Special Mustang Pride Dad Visit

Reported by debbie_matekaitis@ipsd.org on 12/15/17

Today we had a very special Mustang Pride Dad visit McCarty: Alejandro Bautista. Alejandro is a member of the United States Air Force, serving overseas to protect our freedoms. He has been away from his family for ten months. McCarty proudly became the "Welcome Home" setting of this surprise celebration. On behalf of our school community, I would like to thank Mr. Bautista for his sacrifice and service. It was an honor for our school to host their family reunion. Credit to our 3rd Grade Team for making the event happen— behind the scenes planning was led by Ms. Maginity. Our teachers turned the curricular connection of "Make a Difference" into a live, meaningful, and relevant learning experience. There's no better authentic audience than students at McCarty— they were great in how they handled the whole thing and respected Mr. Bautista, our country, and his service and learned how to express gratitude and show appreciation. In addition to Mr. Bautista, Aurora Mayor Irvin and IPSD 204 Superintendent Karen Sullivan joined us as did several local media outlets. In fact, WGN will be covering this Mustang Pride story at 4:00, 6:00, and 9:00. Tune in and be proud!
