Specials CurriculumSecond GradeARTSecond grade art introduces students to the art concepts of landscape, still life, portrait and abstract art. Throughout the year the art projects reinforce these art forms. Second grade students explore printmaking media as well as different media in drawing and painting. The second grade year in art is mostly two dimensional in nature. Students are encouraged to expand their view of the world in knowing why things look the way they do. Example: What color is the sun? MUSICIn second grade, students have their first experience with following music in books. They begin relating simple rhythm and melody patterns that they hear and perform, to what these patterns look like when they are written down. Second graders continue the study of shape or ”form” of music. They also continue the study of music symbols. Activities include learning to play simple patterns on “Orff” instruments, doing folk dances from America and other cultures. The second grade will be presenting a music program in the spring. PHYSICAL EDUCATIONSecond grade students will refine their locomotor skills. Students will continue to explore and develop basic manipulative skills. The relationship of music and physical education will be demonstrated through the use of various dances. Students will also be exposed to the circulatory system, muscle groups and basic health-nutrition concepts during the Heart Adventure unit. Second graders will take the district Physical Fitness, Locomotor, and cognitive tests in the fall and spring. SCHEDULED TIMES
DISTRICT ASSESSMENT FOR MUSIC AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION OCCURS DURING THE SECOND GRADE YEARANSWER: White. White light contains all colors in the visible spectrum. When you see an orange or yellow sun it is the atmosphere, not the sun, that changes color. Next question: Where can you go to see the best sunsets? Why? |
