Specials Curriculum
Kindergarten
ART
Kindergarten students have unique and special needs in
art education. Kindergarten children need to be encouraged to perceive
differences in their world, and to make choices based on this
perception. Students are encouraged to find their own solution to art
projects, to develop an appreciation for the art work of others and to
express their preferences. Art projects include two and three
dimensional work, painting, drawing, and simple color theory.
MUSIC
Kindergarten students are introduced to basic music
concepts which they explore through singing, moving, listening and
playing instruments. Their music experiences range from the structure of
the steady beat, to the openness of expression and interpretation
through music. The kindergarten classes will present a music program
later in the school year.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Kindergarten students will be introduced to locomotor
skills such as galloping, jumping, running, walking, skipping, hopping,
and dancing to music. They will practice these skills through game play
and developmental activities. They will also be introduced to basic
manipulative skills such as throwing, catching, striking, and kicking.
They will work independently, with partners and in small groups.
